Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, discolored skin and scars — usually on the face. They can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures. And they can be done at different depths, from light to deep. Deeper chemical peels offer more-dramatic results but also take longer to recover from

A VI Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that penetrates your top layer of skin, called the epidermis, reaching into the dermis underneath. It uses a product trademarked by Vitality Institute Medical Products. Like other chemical peels, a VI Peel works by exfoliating your skin and stimulating the production of new proteins. The procedure is commonly used to treat signs of aging, improve skin texture, and correct pigmentary issues.

VI Peel has developed 5 custom peels to choose from – the VI Peel for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation, the VI Precision Peel for anti-aging, sun damage and body treatments, the VI Precision Plus Peel for pigmentation, acne scarring, age spots and lightening, the VI Peel Purify Peel for acne, acne scarring and oily skin and the VI Peel Purify with Precision Plus for acne, acne scarring and lightening. Each VI Peel targets a specific skin care concern and all are great for all skin types.  In fact, this medium depth chemical peel is particularly great for skin of color. Indeed, from its origin this company has maintained a special focus on patients with skin of color.

ZO Skin Ossential Stimulator Peel Salicylic is a quick and easy treatment to smooth away lines and wrinkles, acne, age spots, uneven pigmentation and rough skin texture. This product is intended to peel the skin off by encouraging cellular circulation to improve skin tone and clarity.

A lactic acid chemical peel is a technique that uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the skin by removing its damaged upper most layers. It promotes the growth of a new layer of skin that is smoother and younger-looking. Lactic acid, a type of alpha hydroxy acid, is derived from sour milk and is used for the mildest, most gentle of chemical peels. It contains keratolytic AHA that smoothes skin and improves texture and is less irritating and drying, delivering smoother, softer and younger-looking skin while it helps diminish fine lines, acne, and hyperpigmentation (brown spots).

TCA (trichloracetic acid) is an analog of acetic acid (like vinegar) and is an active ingredient in many popular chemical peels. When applied to the skin, TCA peels exfoliate the top layer of skin over the course of several days, exposing a smoother and more attractive new layer of skin underneath.

There are several strengths of TCA peels, allowing various formulations to work at different depths in the skin. The TCA formulation that will work best for your needs will depend on factors such as what you are seeking treatment for and the extent of imperfections in the treatment area.

Depending on your needs, we may recommend a light or medium TCA peel. Light peels may take two or three treatments for optimal effects, but medium peels are typically quite effective following one application. During your private and confidential consultation at our practice, we can discuss what will be best for your specific needs.
